Yay, France! I've been to (old) Carcassonne before and it was great to walk around the wall's perimeter:

I don't know exactly how far you'd have to go to reach it, but the Canal du Midi near Carcassonne would be a beautiful place to take a stroll if you get the time.

I follow your blog and really enjoy it. I had to comment when I saw your post today. I visited Spain 2 years ago and thought it was incredible. I took the train up to Carcassonne. It was an experience I will never forget. We stayed inside the city and it was probably the most amazing place I have ever visited. So charming. Probably the most gorgeous city I have ever been to...or Barcelona was? Amazing though, hope you enjoy it and cant wait to hear what you think.
