DIY Patterned Baby Leggings

Lately I've been seeing a ton of adorable patterned baby leggings (like these and these for example) but at $40 + a pop, I cannot for the life of me justify purchasing a pair for my kid. I know that they'll be covered in dried bits of food and dust by the end of the day. I would love to buy fabric and sew some but a)I can't sew and b)this requires way more work than I wish to invest in a pair of leggings. But I felt inspired by all the funky patterned fabrics used for these leggings and I decided that I would try to make my own - using baby leggings I found at Old Navy. In true Marie-Eve fashion, the entire project took me about 5 minutes and is far from perfect. But
they are very very cute - and affordable!

Here's what you'll need:

A pair of inexpensive cotton leggings*
1 kitchen sponge (or a proper stencil kit if you have one)
Fabric paint

*Leggings for boys are hard to find so always browse the girls' section
for gender-neutral colours. We found navy, black and striped ones there!

How To:

Using scissors, cut your sponge into the shape you want to stamp onto the leggings.

Dip it into your fabric paint and dab off any excess onto a paper towel.
You may want to test out your stamp onto a piece of paper first.

Stamp away!
In my case, I ended up going over every triangle a second time so that the white popped more. I like that the shapes were't perfect and a little washed out.

Once the paint is dry, go over it with an iron for about 5 minutes to set
(or follow the instructions on the label).
