New Year, Old Eating Habits

It seems as though everyone is kicking off the new year with some sort of juice cleanse. I am not one of them. I'm cutting down on alcohol (since, you know, I had a drink or 5 every day of the Holidays) but nothing is changing with my eating habits. Moderation is my motto and I accept that this means that I won't be a Size 2, like, ever - and I'm ok with that. I love food way too much to prohibit myself from eating things like Rosemary Chicken Lasagna, Sweet Potato Gnocchi with Brown Butter Balsamic Sauce, Smashed Potatoes with Garlic, Lemon Zest, Parsley and Parmesan, or Italian Rigatoni Pie (!!). Besides, I live in Canada. It's -30 degrees on some winter days and I don't want to eat salad. I want carbs, gooey cheese and red meat. I'm not saying one should eat Big Macs everyday (although that doesn't sound half bad) but it's nice to find a balance between treating yourself to the things you love and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This is not a way of eating that works for everyone but it works for me.

I'm curious, have you ever tried a cleanse? Do they work?

I do a cleanse around once a year. I usually do a variation on this one: http://wildroseproducts.com/en-CA/kit/d-tox-program

The last time, I didn't bother buying the kit and just followed the diet for a few weeks. I like this one because you can eat as much as you want and it feels very natural. Most of the world population eats a similar diet every day! I use it mostly to break my sugar cravings, and it forces me to try new and interesting recipes.

This small "reset" means I eat pretty much what I want the rest of the year (with moderation). I'm like you - I love food wayyy too much to diet! And I'm married to a french man, so forget about giving up cheese, meat and bread!

My sister Dr. insists that cleanses, juices, etc., are all gimmicks. According to her, as long as once leads a healthy lifestyle, incorporating veggies, fruits and activity, there is no reason for such things. If you think about it, she's right. Eating healthy, being active, moderation and e occasional indulgence are key! And way more enjoyable for us foodies!

I am actually trying out my first one right now. I am taking these cleansesmart capsules. You don't actually have to change the way you eat when you do this cleanse, but I am taking it as an opportunity to learn some new recipes and new ingredients. I've cut out quite a few things from my diet and I won't keep it up forever, but I am trying to build some new, healthier habits. I use to only eat white. White bride, white pasta, white rice! Now I am learning to enjoy whole wheat things. It's also a way for me to eat less desserts and eat more fruits and vegies. I feel really good about it :)
I tried out this great quinoa burger recipe, if ever you are interested!

I haven't tried a cleanse yet, but I am very curious about them. I hear Blueprint Cleanse is very good. You have all the juices delivered to your door. Easy.
I definitely agree with you that the cold weather here is not exactly salad weather.
