A low key birthday

I turned 31 on saturday. I also wrapped up week 38 of my pregnancy so, as you can imagine, all I felt like doing was hitting up the clubs and dancing the night away (I'm hoping you can detect an air of sarcasm here). Truthfully, what I really wanted to do was forget that it was my birthday all together. As per usual, there had been a blizzard on the eve of my celebration of birth and we awoke to the sound of snowplows and cars trying to un-wedge themselves from their parking spots.

I would have been happy to sit and watch movies all day. But Mike helped me into the only pair of pants that fit me now and we headed into the great outdoors. I must say that the morning after a snow storm is magical.

Once Mike managed to dig out the car, we drove to Lawrence for brunch. Our friend is a waiter there and we were treated to a birthday scone with cream and jam. I ordered what is quite possibly the most decadent thing on the menu, the egg and sausage roll. It's one of the greatest things on earth although a knife and fork is required to eat this bad boy.

After brunch we walked over to Café Sardine, a tiny little lunch spot that recently opened next door. I had heard that they made fresh beignets every morning and I told Mike that we should probably get a few in case we get hungry later that afternoon. We grabbed a bag full and they were still warm. Still. Warm. So I ate one whilst watching Mike dig out the car - again - so we could head home and bundle up.

You look beautiful! (And I will have to try these doughnuts soon - and bring some to the mommy-to-be in my life!)

I absolutely love that, in the first photo, we can see your reflection in the great little lamp next to the bed!

Happy birthday! The first picture with the charcoal wall and the dark headboard inspires me tons. And you know, birthdays don't absolutely need to be spent in cramped nightclubs anyways :)
