It's been a while since I've updated you on our nursery goings-on - or lack thereof. You see, once we painted the wall and installed the rug, worked stopped on our job site. We feel like we still have a ton of time but I would love to get as much done while I am still fully mobile. So I got my butt in gear and made a list of what we needed. I'm using italics here because "need" is rather objective. I suppose there's 2 lists: one with "wants" (art, frames, furry rugs, etc) and one with actual "needs" (crib, bedding, changing pad, rocking chair, etc). One is much more fun than the other...

{Penny currently believes that this space is her very own playroom.}
As I mentioned in this post, the nursery will be adjoined to our bedroom so our goal is to have a unified space all the while creating a nursery that is cozy and kid-friendly. We're going for a modern room with whimsical touches, refurbished pieces and furniture that will grow with our baby. Here is how the nursery's shaping up:

Turns out we're in pretty good shape since many of these items have been ordered or are sitting around in a stock pile in our dining room. I purchased a funky collage by Erin Dollar because it tied in all of our colours and the shapes were playful and interesting for a nursery.

We've already purchased many of the "needs": we're using our IKEA desk as out changing table, which we're outfitting with a changing pad. It'll be handy because it's the right height and has two drawers. We also have the rug in place and two IKEA wardrobes that once housed my clothes. We'll use those to store the baby gear, blankets and clothing.
My mother and I found my old crib bumper and duvet in the old cedar chest and we decided to recover them for our little man's crib! I ordered some Dear Stella fabric from Fabricworm (above) in two complementary patterns for only $50! Both the bumper and the duvet will have one pattern per side and be finished with the bright green piping that I had on my original crib bedding. Can't wait to see the finished product in the IKEA crib. (UPDATE: Apparently bumper pads are not recommended due to suffocation risks?!)
As for the "wants", they include: a few more prints, some stuffed animals, a mobile and a few other knick-knacks.
So that's it for now! Stay tuned for more updates! I'll be sure to share some pics when we actually start putting the room together.

Oh my gosh! It's going to look so adorable!! This post is giving me mild anxiety - we've done nothing compared to you guys!! ;)
xx
Bess - to be clear, I have made a moodboard and purchased things online....it's far from finished!! Also, all you really need is a crib, which you have! ox
After months of agonizing over the purchase of a crib (big, heavy, traditional, expensive vs. sleek, modern, design, expensive cribs), we purchased that same Gulliver crib. It is awesome, clean, clear, sleek, light. Ours is two years old now, the side is off, and it is still cute as can be. I spent many nights trying not to lose my mind by meditatively counting the rungs on it: 19 on the front and back, 8 on the sides.
not sure if you purchased the rocking chair yet but my friend who is about your height bought that chair for her nursery and found it was not comfortable at all for rocking and really uncomfortable for nursing.
totally coming together! my sis is having her kid soon and I can't wait to decorate.
I love your choices. Can I point out a 'need' that's almost as fun to shop for as a 'want'? Baskets or shelving or container type items, for all the toys/books your baby will accumulate - quite quickly too! West Elm are doing beautiful grey felt monogrammed or personalised basket-like things online...
Um scratch that, just saw your cute stripey basket!
I love the look you're going for... That is going to be one happy baby :) I'm borrowing your ideas for my future babies...

cheers!
Thanks for the feedback and tips everyone! ox
Merci Marie! Thanks amy Rebekah! Several people have emailed me about this chair and although I really want one for our living room, it's not ideal for a nursery. We'll have to find another option! That being said, I plan on spending more time on the couch than in the nursery so maybe a new couch is in order...!
