Anniversary weekend : super long recap

Mike and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary this weekend! We considered going away for the weekend but then we decided that there was nothing we would rather do than just hang out at home, together, and spoil ourselves rotten. In our case, that usually means indulging in food. Which we did.

We kicked off the celebrations on Friday night by attending our dear friend Davina's early birthday party. Davina and Daniel have just moved into a new photography studio and it is such a fantastic space (hopefully one that I'll get to share in a future edition of In The Studio With...) The party was Mexican fiesta themed and Dav did an amazing job of putting everything together. There was a ton of food, a photobooth and a pinata. I had about 6 tacos and 7 margheritas. I realize that's pretty gross but at the time it felt right and this was a weekend for indulgences.

{Here I am with D+D's adorable dog Coco while Mike tries to think of something witty to write on the eraser board.}

We woke up rather groggy on Saturday morning. Mike surprised me with two awesome gifts for our new place: a vintage globe and 8 ball (we got married on August 8th) from Style Labo. They are both perfect for our office!

Then I headed off to Chez Snips for a hair cut (the bangs are back..) and then to pick up another gift for our apartment (thank you Craigslist): a 1960's Olivetti Underwood Studio 44 typewriter. Oh and did I mention it's turquoise and in perfect working order!? I hope Mike will use it someday but in the meantime I'm happy to admire it from my desk.

After lunch at Big In Japan, a new-ish Japanese Tapas bar on St-Laurent, we headed home to make cherry slab pie. It is one of Mike's favorite desserts and I promised him I would give it a go. Luckily, Smitten Kitchen had a recipe for me to try out and it worked like a charm. We will be eating cherry slab for the next month but Mike is a happy camper and that's all that matters. Full recipe and pictures coming up later in the day!

After digesting our afternoon dessert, we got ready for dinner at Le Chien Fumant on Montreal's Plateau. There has been a lot of buzz around this place since it opened last year. I can see why. We had the most INCREDIBLE night there. We sat at the bar and ate, ate and ate. The staff was so fantastic and the food was just phenomenal. We held nothing back and just went to town, ordering great wine and trying out different dishes. We wobbled our way back home, grinning from ear to ear. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.

Love. That. Typewriter. I'm trying to find an excuse to have one in my home, but my place is so small, all surfaces are accounted for. Sigh.
