(on the subject of movies that is) I saw 2 brilliant documentaries this weekend. I highly recommend both although they could not be more different from one another.
Helvetica, as in the font, examines the world of design with a special focus on typefaces. It was like font porn and I couldn't get enough of it. It's also a really interesting look at visual culture.
Good Hair was one of the most hilarious films I've seen in a while. Chris Rock's documentary on African American women's relationship with their hair had everyone in the theatre in hysterics and it also made me realize that I complain about my hair way too much.

Haha I just twittered that trailer and put it on facebook - I want to see this hair documentary by Chris !
Ah, I totally want to see helvetica! I think it's been on tv here but I forgot to DVR it. glad to know it was excellent!
I saw Helvetica a few weeks ago and now my fiancé and I walk around the city randomly saying "helvetica!" every time we spot it.
I own both "Helvetica" and "Objectified" (two amazing documentaries by Gary Hustwit) as well as a reaaaaaally cool tote bag that came with the DVDs!! Both films are really worth seeing. Lots of bonus features as well (mostly extended interviews) that are really interesting and informative.
The best part of "Helvetica," for me, was the footage with Massimo Vignelli. Also, even though I really respect Erik Spiekermann's work (and he must be praised as nothing less than genius for creating the font shop) he comes across as suuuuuuch a douche!!
Things to get excited about in "Objectified" if you haven't seen it yet: The explanation of the toothpick, and the amazing footage with the brilliant designer Naoto Fukasawa.
I'm so happy you saw the first one. Whenever you and Mr.Hubbs want to watch "Objectified" you're more than welcome to borrow it.
Thanks Chris!
I absolutely adore Gary Hustwist's work. I am dying to see Objectified!
