Trip planning has started

Mike and I are trying to loosely plan our little European adventure. I say 'loosely' because although it's in my nature to over plan, I'm trying to leave some room for spontaneity. That's sort of the point of this whole trip. Having said that, there are some places that we don't want to miss and I've started to make reservations. One of those places is Amsterdam.

I've never been and it's always been on my list. I found a great deal through Expedia and booked it immediately. Here's the cute little hotel where we'll be staying for the 4 nights we're in town. If you have Amsterdam restaurant/shopping/museum recommendations, please send them my way!

wander away from the touristy areas....take the train to Haarlem....hang out in any restaurants that look tourist-free & are filled with locals....the further you walk away from the Leideseplein & the Damrak, the better your experience will be!

Marie-Eve I am soooo jealous! You are living my dream I can't wait to hear all about your exciting adventures. This is going to change your lives! P.S. Our parents started bawling when we gave them their family trees. They loved them so, so much. Thank you! xoxo

Breakfast at http://www.smallworldcatering.nl/. Dinner at http://www.restaurantdekas.nl/. Shopping in the Nine Streets. Shopping on Herenstraat between Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht. Shopping (and walking) on Haarlemmerdijk. I agree with the person above - avoid Leieseplein and Damrak like the plague.... go to the farmer's market (and flea market) outside the Noorderkerk at the weekends, then go and have coffee at the best cafe in the world (officially), Tabac on the corner of Prinsengracht and Brouwersgracht ...

We loved this restaurant; when we stayed at the Hotel Krasnapolsky (which was dissapointing) the staff told us to eat at this restaurant because the hotel could override a full house for us..so we did. The food was amazing and it is a fantastic and cool restaurant that is hidden away but attracts a cool crowd...jackets and jeans for guys and gals...it was summer though and there were a lot of chique dresses.

damn you, i think you should have stayed in a houseboat/hostel and contracted some darling bed-bug bites like yours truly! no, i don't recommend that at all! the van goh museum is worth a visit (even i thought it was cool and i'm not really much of a museum-goer). also, take a canal tour. uber touristy, but it's a great way to see the city from a different point of view.

I was informed today that they have a purse museum there. I have no idea if its any good but I know I would certainly take a look.
